How to Search St. Mary Parish Sex Offenders

St. Mary Parish sex offender searches are done through the Louisiana State Police sex offender registry. This is the primary public tool for looking up registered offenders anywhere in the state. You can filter by parish, city, street address, or name. Each record shows the offender's current address, photo, offense type, and tier level. The map view is useful for checking a specific neighborhood in Franklin or Morgan City.

The LSP registry is free and open to the public. No account or login is needed. The tool works on mobile and desktop. Searches are anonymous. Results update as offenders check in and report changes, though there can be a brief delay between when a change is filed and when it appears online.

Sex Offender Laws That Apply in St. Mary Parish

St. Mary Parish operates under the same statewide laws as every other Louisiana parish. RS 15:540 is the foundational statute, covering who must register, how often they must check in, what data they must provide, and what violations look like. The law applies to anyone convicted of a qualifying sex offense in Louisiana and to out-of-state offenders who move here.

Tier assignments govern registration length. Under RS 15:541, Tier I offenders register for 15 years and check in once a year. Tier II is 25 years with check-ins every six months. Tier III means lifetime registration and check-ins every 90 days. Courts set the tier at sentencing based on the offense and the offender's prior record. Behavior after conviction generally does not change the tier designation unless a court formally modifies the order.

Under RS 15:542, offenders must report within 3 business days any time they change addresses, start a new job, enroll in or leave a school, or change any online identifier including email addresses and social media accounts. Every missed update is a separate felony. Registration must happen in person and cannot be done by mail or phone. The 3-day clock starts from the date of the change, not from when the next scheduled check-in is due.

Residency restrictions in RS 15:540 bar offenders from living within 1,000 feet of schools, daycare centers, parks, and playgrounds. Courts can set tighter limits. Violating a residency restriction is a separate criminal offense from any registration violation. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office enforces both in the parish.

Note: Registry data is public. Using it to threaten or harass a registrant or their family may result in criminal charges under Louisiana law.

Reporting Non-Compliance in St. Mary Parish

You can also reach the Louisiana State Police hotline at 1-800-858-0551, which is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CDT. Anonymous tips are accepted. Violations to report include living somewhere different from the registered address, a missed check-in, failure to report a new job or school enrollment, or opening online accounts without reporting them to the registry. Each type of violation is charged separately under state law. The sheriff's office works with state police to investigate reports and verify compliance through home visits and other checks.
