How to Search Baton Rouge Sex Offenders

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office runs the local OffenderWatch portal for Baton Rouge. You can search by name, address, or ZIP code. The map view lets you look up offenders near a specific street. Results show the offender's name, photo, current address, offense, and registration tier. Access is free and no account is needed.

The Louisiana State Police also runs a statewide registry at lsp.org. It covers all 64 parishes including East Baton Rouge. Both the LSP system and the OffenderWatch portal pull from the same data. For phone-based lookups, call the LSP hotline at 1-800-858-0551, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CDT.

The Baton Rouge Police Department also maintains contact with the sex offender registry process. Their non-emergency line is (225) 389-3800. For direct sheriff contact, call (225) 389-5000. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office main location is at 8900 Jimmy Wedell Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70807.

Because Baton Rouge is the state capital, state agencies like the Louisiana Department of Corrections and the Louisiana State Police have their main offices here. This proximity means the coordination between local and state registry systems in Baton Rouge tends to be more direct than in other parts of the state.

Who Must Register in Baton Rouge

Any person convicted of a qualifying sex offense in Louisiana, or who moves to Baton Rouge after a qualifying conviction in another state, must register under RS 15:540. This applies whether the sentence was prison time, probation, or a suspended sentence. The offense, not the sentence, determines the duty to register.

Louisiana uses three tiers. Tier I offenders register once a year for 15 years. Tier II offenders register every 6 months for 25 years. Tier III offenders, those with the most serious convictions, register every 90 days for life. The tier is set at sentencing. It does not change based on behavior after release.

Offenders who live, work, or attend school in Baton Rouge must register in the city. Under RS 15:542, each registrant must report to three agencies: the Louisiana State Police, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Baton Rouge Police Department. Missing any one of the three counts as a separate felony. Address changes must be reported within 3 business days.

Online identifiers are part of registration. Offenders must list all email addresses, social media handles, and other online screen names. Any change to those identifiers must be reported within 3 business days. The definitions of qualifying offenses are in RS 15:541.

Reporting Non-Compliance in Baton Rouge

If you think a registered sex offender in Baton Rouge is out of compliance, report it. Call the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff at (225) 389-5000. You can also contact the Baton Rouge Police Department at (225) 389-3800. For a state-level investigation, use the LSP hotline at 1-800-858-0551.

Non-compliance can mean failure to register, a false address on file, living too close to a school or daycare in violation of state residency rules, or failing to update online identifiers. Each is a criminal offense under Louisiana law. Do not confront a registrant yourself. Using registry data to threaten or harass anyone, including a registrant's family, can result in criminal charges against the person doing so.
