Registration requirements in St. George follow Louisiana state law. Under RS 15:540, any person convicted of a qualifying sex offense in Louisiana, or who moves to St. George after a qualifying conviction elsewhere, must register. The duty follows the offense, not the sentence. Probation-only outcomes still require registration when the offense is on the qualifying list.
Louisiana assigns registrants to one of three tiers. Tier I means annual registration for 15 years. Tier II means semi-annual registration for 25 years. Tier III means registration every 90 days for life. Tiers are set at sentencing and do not change based on conduct after release.
Under RS 15:542, registrants in St. George currently must report to the Louisiana State Police and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. As the St. George Police Department becomes operational, city residents will also need to register there, adding a third agency. Address changes must be reported within 3 business days of any move.
Online identifiers are part of every registration. All email addresses, social media handles, and screen names must be disclosed and updated within 3 business days of any change. The qualifying offense list and full obligations appear in RS 15:541.
